LAKEVILLE, Minn. – In its final tune up before the MIAC Playoffs, the Carleton College men's tennis team blanked Saint John's University, 9-0, in the Knights' regular-season finale. Nine of the ten players on the Carleton roster found their way into the win column.
The Knights (17-3, 8-1 MIAC) quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of the doubles matches.
Tarm Rojanasoonthon (So./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) and
Tate Fuller (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) prevailed by an 8-3 margin at No. 1 doubles, with
Yuv Kataria (Jr./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) and
Jack Rivkin (Fy./Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) duplicating that score for the win at No. 3 doubles.
Ozzie Viswanathan (Sr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and
Zach Leslie (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) added an 8-4 triumph at the second slot.
The Knights made some adjustments to their typical singles lineup but still won five of the six solo contests in straight sets.
Rojanasoonthon and Kataria both won their seventh consecutive singles matches, the former winning 6-1, 6-3 atop the lineup and the latter 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 at the second slot.
Leslie moved to 5-1 this month after contributing a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 singles. With a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles,
Cooper Kline (Fy./Los Angeles, Calif./The Buckley School) notched his 15th win of the season.
Aniketh Vipparla (Jr./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) prevailed in the most dramatic match of the day, besting his opponent at No. 5 singles by a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) count.
On Senior Day, senior
Noah Mueller (Dubai, UAE/German International School Dubai) returned to the win column with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will be the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAC Playoffs and hosts No. 3 seed Macalester College in the semifinals. That competition is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start on Thursday, April 27.
