Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Knights fall to No. 13 Gustavus Adolphus

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Carleton Men's Tennis saw its eight-match win streak snapped with a 7-2 loss to No. 13-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College. The contest pitted the top two teams in the MIAC against one another.

It had been more than a month since the Knights (16-3, 7-1 MIAC) last suffered a setback to any opponent, and this marked their first conference loss of the 2022-23 season.

"Today's match reminded me of a Coachella concert," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. "There were big egos, tremendously entertaining acts, huge crowds, and long lines at the bathroom."

Carleton's Tarm Rojanasoonthon (So./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) and Tate Fuller (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) battled hard before eventually dropping a barn burner at No. 1 doubles, 8-7 (7-3). The Knight duo is ranked No 5 in Region VII by the NCAA, while their opponents—Nick Aney and Daniel Fouchier—are the top-ranked duo in the region.

Gustavus (22-10, 8-0 MIAC) captured the other two doubles matches and carried a 3-0 lead into singles.

The No. 1 singles match featured the two players that sit atop the NCAA's regional ranking: Aney and Rojanasoonthon. The Carleton sophomore got the better of his veteran opponent, prevailing by a 6-3, 6-4 tally.

Carleton's other team point came at No. 3 singles as Yuv Kataria (Jr./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep), the reigning MIAC Athlete of the Week, knocked off regionally-ranked Indraneel Raut by a 6-4, 6-4 margin.

Despite losing two of the top three singles matches, Gustavus was able to secure its 34th consecutive MIAC regular-season title.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton wraps up the regular season with a match against Saint John's University on Sunday, April 23. That match has been moved indoor at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn. The start time is projected to be about 2:30 p.m. depending on the status of the women's match versus Saint Benedict.
