Knights stay red hot with 9-0 win over Union

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Carleton College women's team remains undefeated this season following a 9-0 triumph over Union College (N.Y.) at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center.

The Knights (11-0) won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-3. First to finish was the No. 3 doubles pairing of Alise Pedersen (Sr./San Anselmo, Calif./The Branson School) and Amanda Black (So./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville). Soon after, sophomores Mariam Nechiporuk (Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) and Ingrid Smith (Edina, Minn./Edina) prevailed at No. 2 doubles for the fifth consecutive time. Amelia Asfaw (So./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) and Mary Hose (Jr./Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) completed the doubles sweep with their victory atop the lineup.

In singles, the Knights claimed all six matches in straight sets.

Nechiporuk improved to 7-0 with her 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Asfaw was next to finish, prevailing at No. 1 singles for the second straight day, this time by a 6-4, 6-1 score.

Miriam Shteyman (So./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the fourth slot followed by Smith getting back in the win column with her 6-2, 6-2 result at No. 5 singles.

Carleton's last two wins came in comebacks. Zoe Rose (So./Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) improved to 10-0 on the season and did so after trailing 3-1 in the opening set. She won 11 of the next 12 games to take the match by a 6-4, 6-0 ledger. Hose also fell behind early, trailing 3-0 in the first set, but like Rose seized the momentum en route to an eventual 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles.
