HILTON HEAD, SC – The Carleton College women's tennis team improved to 10-0 on the season after a decisive 8-1 victory over the College of Wooster.
The Knights seized control early by sweeping the doubles matches.
Mary Hose (Jr./Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) and
Amelia Asfaw (So./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) cruised to an 8-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores
Mariam Nechiporuk (Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) and
Amanda Black (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) prevailed 8-3 at the second slot, while seniors
Alise Pedersen (San Anselmo, Calif./The Branson School) and
Sydney Bell (Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes) did likewise at No. 3 singles.
Carleton's five victories in singles all came in straight sets.
Asfaw improved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 result atop the lineup. Nechiporuk was next to finish, wining at No. 3 singles by the same score to claim her sixth consecutive triumph and secure the team victory for the Knights. Soon after,
Zoe Rose (So./Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) moved to a team-best 9-0 on the season with her 6-0, 6-3 win at the fifth slot.
Wooster (8-3) picked up its lone team point with a super tiebreaker win at No. 4 singles, but Carleton closed out the day with two more convincing singles victories. Hose played at the No 2 spot for the first time this campaign and registered a 6-2, 6-2 win, while
Piper Brown (So./Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Porter-Gaud) improved to 4-0 with her 6-1, 6-2 decision at the sixth spot.
