HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Carleton College women's tennis team began the competition portion of its Spring Break trip with a pair of triumphs, defeating Frostburg State by a 5-4 scored and Saint Ambrose University by a 9-0 margin. A dozen Knights saw court time on Monday and all 12 registered at least one victory in singles or doubles as Carleton improved to 9-0 on the season.
The day began with a victory of Frostburg State (4-6), a NCAA Divison II program. The Knights fell behind after doubles with the lone victory coming from the third slot as
Kathryn Burton (Jr./Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and
Alisa Makatsaria (Sr./New York, N.Y./Singapore American School) prevailed 8-7 (7-2).
Ingrid Smith (So./Edina, Minn./Edina) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to level the match, only to watch the Bobcats pick up a straight-sets decision atop the lineup.
Zoe Rose (So./Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy) secured a 6-2, 6-0 result at the No. 6 slot, and
Amelia Asfaw (So./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) inched Carleton head with her 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
Frostburg State knotted the match backup with a win at the fourth slot, but
Mariam Nechiporuk (So./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) rallied from a set down to win 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-4 at No. 3 singles to clinch the match for the Knights.
Carleton was back on the court for an afternoon match versus Saint Ambrose. This contest did not have the same level of drama as was seen earlier in the day. The Knights dropped six total games across the nine matches.

Mary Frances Hose (Jr./Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) registered an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, with
Amanda Black (So./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and
Alise Pedersen (Sr./San Anselmo, Calif./The Branson School) prevailed by the same score at No. 3 doubles. Nechiporuk and Smith posted an 8-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
Miriam Shteyman (So./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory atop the singles lineup, while Rose added a 6-0, 6-3 result at the second spot. Pederson,
Piper Brown (So./Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Porter-Gaud),
Sydney Bell (Sr./Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes), and Makatsaria each prevailed 6-0, 6-0 at the third though sixth spots, respectively, in the lineup.
