TUCSON, Ariz. – The Carleton College baseball team opened its Spring Break trip by dropping both games of a doubleheader against Concordia University Wisconsin by scores of 9-1 and 19-2.
Game 1 Recap
Concordia (7-4) opened the scoring with a two-out home run in the top of the first inning. Carleton (0-4) answered back via
Luke Mager's (Sr./Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) RBI single in the bottom of the stanza.
That proved to be all the scoring for the Knights, who collected five hits—all singles—in the contest.
Sam Zacks (So./Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) took the loss as he was solved for six runs (five earned) over 3.1 frames on the bump. Relivers
Will Schnepf (Fy./Dallas, Texas/Parish Episcopal) and
Braden Sebesta (Sr./Spring, Texas/John Cooper School) combined for six strikeouts and did not allow an earned run over their 3.2 innings of work.
Game 2 Recap
The Falcons used a pair of big innings to create early separation, scoring seven times in both the first and second frames.
Carleton scored both of its runs in the top of the sixth. With two out and no one aboard, Zacks singled and stole second.
Aaron Rice (So./Evergreen, Colo./Colorado Academy) reached when the Concordia catcher could not control strike three.
Steve Antrim (Jr./Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) followed with a two-run single to the right side.
Once again, each Carleton hit was a single, while Concordia pounded out five extra-base hits.
