NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
Aiana Whitfield tallied a game-high 16 points to pace the Knights but the Carleton College women's basketball team dropped a 66-56 result to Concordia College-Moorhead.
Jasmine Choi added 15 points and seven boards for the Knights who had four players finish in double figures.
Carleton (2-7, 1-6 MIAC) got off to a quick start and built a 16-8 lead with 0:45 remaining in the first quarter. Concordia (8-2, 5-2 MIAC) answered with a 13-5 burst over the next four minutes of game action, part of longer 36-15 run that stretched through the first three minutes of the third quarter.
The Knights chipped away at the 13-point deficit and pulled to within 54-50 when Choi scored in the paint with 6:01 remaining in the contest.
Both offenses suddenly went cold as both sides scored only two points apiece over a nearly five-minute stretch. The Cobbers iced the game with five free throws in the final minute.
This was the fourth straight victory for Concordia, which moved into a tie for third place in the conference standings.
The Knights out-shot the Cobbers 44 percent to 42 percent overall, but Concordia made two extra 3-pointers and was 16-of-22 at the free throw line compared to 10-of-12 for Carleton.
The visitors pulled down 11 offensive rebounds that they turned into a 12-0 advantage in second-chance points.
Emma Henry narrowly missed another double-double as she tallied 11 points and nine rebounds plus three steals.
Amelia Solt contributed 10 points.
Carlee Sieban had a team-high 15 points to lead four Cobbers in double figures. Makayla Anderson added 14 points and seven rebounds for the visitors, who also received 10-point efforts off the bench from Jordyn Kahler and Greta Tollefson.
