Knights unable to keep pace with Pipers

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Aiana Whitfield had a team-high 11 points, but the Carleton College women's basketball team fell to Hamline University, 65-37, at West Gym.

Both teams struggled to score early and both sides had seven turnovers in the opening period. The score was tied 4-4 with 3:00 remaining in the first quarter, but Hamline (11-4, 8-4 MIAC)—which never trailed in the contest—put together a 14-2 run and led by at least nine points the remainder of the contest.

The Pipers pace the MIAC with 109 made 3-pointers this season and hit four shots from deep in the crucial second quarter. The visitors outscored their hosts 18-9 during the period to build a 30-15 lead by halftime.

The second half opened up with some fight from Carleton (4-10, 3-9 MIAC). Emma Henry started the scoring on a layup that was followed by a 3-pointer from Whitfield that brought the Knights within 30-20. Carleton scored 16 points in the third quarter, but Hamline kept up the pace, tallying 17 of its own to hold a 47-31 advantage through three quarters.

Hamline stretched its lead throughout the final period, outscoring Carleton 18-6 over the last 10 minutes.

Chan'el Anderson-Manning collected a game-high 12 points and nine rebounds to lead a balanced attack for Hamline, which also saw three players come off the bench to score eight or more points.

Hamline shot 42 percent overall and was 9-of-25 (36 percent) from 3-point range, while Carleton connected at a 30 percent clip overall and 24 percent (4-of-17) from beyond the arc.
