NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team returned to the win column as the Knights swept visiting Hamline University, 9-0, on Saturday. The match began at the Pat Lamb Tennis Courts but moved inside the Recreation Center after rain began falling midway through the match.
Mariam Nechiporuk (Fy./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) and
Ingrid Smith (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina) teamed up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Alisa Makatsaria (Jr./New York, N.Y./Singapore American School) and
Sydney Bell (Jr./Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes) notched an 8-0 result at the second slot. Carleton added a win by default in the other doubles match.
In singles, Nechiporuk picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, her first career match at that spot in the order.
Miriam Shteyman (Fy./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) contributed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the second slot.
Smith improved to 8-1 in 2022 with her 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles, and
Piper Brown (Fy./Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Porter-Gaud) remained undefeated this season with a 6-0, 6-0 result at No. 4 singles.
The Pipers did not have a player in the lineup for the other two singles matches.
