WINONA, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis improved to 9-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory at Saint Mary's University on Saturday.
Carleton (9-0 overall, 5-0 MIAC)—ranked No. 11 in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association—used three all-rookie combinations while sweeping the doubles matches.
Amelia Asfaw (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) and
Mariam Nechiporuk (Fy./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) cruised to an 8-1 triumph atop the doubles lineup, while
Ingrid Smith (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina) and
Amanda Black (Fy./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) edged their opponents, 8-6, at the second slot.
Miriam Shteyman (Fy./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and
Piper Brown (Fy./Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Porter-Gaud) prevailed by an 8-4 tally at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights won all six singles matches in straight sets. Asfaw moved to 6-0 in 2022 with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 result from the top spot, and Nechiporuk improved to 5-0 over the same span with her 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles.
Smith also stayed undefeated in 2022 with a 6-4, 6-2 score at No. 3 singles, as Shteyman won her fourth straight match, this one by a 6-3, 6-1 tally.
Black blanked her second opponent of the weekend 6-0, 6-0, while senior
Taylor Thulson (Louisville, Colo./Niwot) registered the other victory, capturing the No. 6 singles contest 6-1, 6-0.
