Perfect 10! Knights sweep St. Olaf to move to 10-0 on the season

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team swept cross-town rival St. Olaf College, 9-0, on Monday and improved to 10-0 on the season. This was the Knights' third victory in as many days.
 
The Knights (10-0, 6-0 MIAC) are ranked No. 11 in the central region and defeated their second regionally-ranked opponent over the last three matches.
 
Once again, Carleton got off to a big lead thanks to a doubles sweep.
 
Mary Frances Hose (So./Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) and reigning MIAC Athlete of the Week Amelia Asfaw (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep) comprise the No. 12-ranked tandem in the region, and they improved to 5-0 on the season with an 8-3 win atop the doubles lineup. Mariam Nechiporuk (Fy./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) and Ingrid Smith (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina) captured their fourth straight doubles win, this one by an 8-2 tally at the second slot. Taylor Thulson (Sr./Louisville, Colo./Niwot) and Amanda Black (Fy./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) got back into the win column with their 8-2 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Knights swept the Oles (6-3, 4-2 MIAC) in singles and dropped two or fewer games in five of the six matches.
 
Hose, ranked No. 3 in the region, moved to 14-2 overall this season and 8-0 in dual matches with her 6-1, 6-0 result in the top singles match. Asfaw improved to 10-0 with her 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the second slot, while Nechipourk won her ninth consecutive match, this one a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
 
St. Olaf came closest to claiming a set at No. 4 singles, but Smith prevailed in a tiebreaker 6-1, 7-6 (5) for her seventh straight win.
 
Miriam Shteyman (Fy./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and Black both notched their fifth consecutive victories, with the former winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and the latter securing a 6-2, 6-0 result at No. 6 singles.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton heads to Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, April 16 for a meeting of the last two squads that are undefeated in MIAC action this season. These two programs have won or shared the MIAC regular-season title in 36 of the 39 seasons that the conference crowned a champion and they have won 12 of the 14 MIAC Playoffs.
