FARGO, N.D. – The Carleton College women's tennis team stayed undefeated during the 2022-23 campaign with a 9-0 triumph over Concordia College-Moorhead.
Piper Brown (So./Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Porter-Gaud),
Mariam Nechiporuk (So./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego),
Zoe Rose (So./Tacoma, Wash./Charles Wright Academy), and
Ingrid Smith (So./Edina, Minn./Edina) all won in both singles and doubles.
Carleton (3-0, 2-0 MIAC) took care of business with a sweep of doubles play. Nechiporuk and Smith tamed up for an 8-3 win atop the lineup as the duo improved to 11-1 all-time when playing together. Meanwhile, Rose and Brown teamed up for the first time and prevailed 8-2 at the second slot.
Lingyu Wei (Sr./Shanghai, China/Shanghai Weiyu High School) and
Kathryn Burton (Jr./Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) joined forces for the first time and came away with an 8-1 decision.
In singles, Nechiporuk prevailed 6-3, 6-2 atop the lineup, while Smith came out on top at No. 2 singles by a 7-5, 6-4 tally.
Rose and Brown took care of business at third and fourth singles, the former won 6-2, 6-1, while the latter knocked off her opponent by a 6-2, 6-2 score.
Sydney Bell (Sr./Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes) and
Alisa Makatsaria (Sr./New York, N.Y./Singapore American School) both made their season debuts and came away victorious. Bell won 6-0, 6-1 at the fifth spot, while Makatsaria took down her opponent 6-1 and 6-3.
