Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. –
Marco da Cunha (Sr./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University) accounted for the game-winning goal in the 65th minute as the Carleton College men's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory at Concordia University Chicago.
"Given that we've flown to Spokane and Chicago in less than three days and played our first actual games in over 22 months, I'm generally pleased with our performance," said Carleton head coach
Bob Carlson. "There's much work to do, but most importantly the guys are thrilled to be back competing together."
Carleton (1-0-1) owned the majority of the possession and spent 75 percent of its time with the ball in the attacking half. That helped the Knights build a 12-4 advantage in shots, including a 6-1 edge in shots on target.
The Knights balanced attack meant that no player attempted more than two shots in the contest.
The goal came in the 65th minute when
Trevor Jones (Jr./Urbandale Iowa/Waukee) eluded a trio of defenders inside the 18-yard box but was tripped from behind.
Da Cunha was sent to attempt the penalty kick, which he converted for his 19th career goal.
Alexei Thomas (Jr./Northwood, United Kingdom/Merchant Taylors School) made that lone goal stand up as he registered his first collegiate shutout.
Since the start of the 2018 campaign, the Knights have gone 31-7-5, good for an .802 winning percentage.
