NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team absorbed its first loss of the season, falling 1-0 to Saint Mary's University in the conference opener for both squads.
The Cardinals (6-0-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) capitalized on a turnover in the 12th minute to tally the game's lone goal. Haddy Falkman intercepted a pass, dribbled into the box and tucked a shot into the top right corner of the goal.
Carleton (2-1-2, 0-1-0 MIAC) maintained 53 percent of the possession in the contest and out-shot the visitors 18-11, but the Knights were unable to knock the equalizer past Saint Mary's goalkeeper Alexis Nguyen.
Annette Shumway (Sr./Arlington, Va./Yorktown) paced the Knights with four shots, two of them on goal.
Lily Hurtubise (Sr./Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) and
Casey MacVeagh (So./Thetford, Vt./Thetford Academy) attempted three shots apiece.

Carleton hits the road for a pair of weekend matches. The Knights visit Gustavus Adolphus College for a 3:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 18 followed by a 5:00 p.m. non-conference contest at Luther College on Sunday, Sept. 19.
