ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Aaron Berkowitz's (So./Leawood, Kan./Pembroke Hill School) first career home run accounted for all of the Knights' scoring as the Carleton College baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at the University of St. Thomas, 4-1 and 10-0 (7 inn.)
Â
Next season, St. Thomas will jump to NCAA Division I as a member of the Summit League.
Â
GAME 1 RECAP
Berkowitz tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning when he crushed a 2-1 fastball and deposited the ball out onto Cretin Ave. beyond the left-field fence.
Â
Unfortunately for Carleton (2-15, 0-5 MIAC), the momentum was short-lived as the Tommies (18-5, 12-2 MIAC) scored three times in the bottom of the frame to complete the scoring.
Â
In the sixth inning,
Travis Brown (Sr./St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) singled and advanced to third base, but that was the only other scoring threat against St. Thomas southpaw Graham Laubscher, who tossed a three-hitter for the hosts.
Â
Rookie
Ben Steel (Fy./Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends School) went the distance for Carleton, allowing the four runs on eight hits.
Â
GAME 2 RECAP
St. Thomas maintained its hold on the top spot in the MIAC standings with a 10-0 (7 inn.) triumph. Carleton had opportunities as the Knights had baserunners aboard in five of the seven frames, and Brown was stranded in scoring position three times.
Â
Cayten Gardner (Jr./Claremont, Calif./Claremont) got the starting nod for Carleton and absorbed the loss as he yielded three runs in 4.2 frames. After St Thomas scored twice in the bottom of the first, Gardner kept the Tommies at bay until a two-out rally in the fifth.

UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS
