MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – On a cool, wet afternoon, the Carleton College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Augsburg University, falling by scores of 3-0 and 3-1. The Knights offense was kept in check most of the day, totaling only three hits in each contest.
GAME 1 RECAP
Rookie
Kiefer Lord (Fy./Atherton, Calif./Menlo School) went the distance for the second time this season but received no run support. He allowed five hits and struck out a game-high five batters with only one walk.
Meanwhile, Augsburg senior Matthew Nicklay scattered three hits and two walks for his first career shutout.
The hosts plated two runs in the second inning after collecting three of their five hits in that frame. The other tally came in the fifth inning when Augsburg cashed in a leadoff triple.
Travis Brown (Sr./St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville),
James Sassi (Jr./Stamford, and
Jacob Small (Jr./Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) had the hits for Carleton.

Brown smashed his previous career high with a 6.0-inning effort. He yielded three runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Luke Mager (So./Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) had two of the Knights' three hits.
