NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
Maris Daleo (Sr./Rockford, Ill./Stillman Valley) collected four hits on the day, but the Carleton College softball team suffered a sweep at the hands of MIAC co-leader St. Catherine University, falling 11-1 (6 inn.) and 7-0.
Due to Carleton's academic calendar, the Knights jumped right into MIAC play a week ago. The schedule has done them no favors as Carleton (0-8, 0-8 MIAC) has played four of the top five teams in the conference standings, squads with a combined 32-8 record in league play.
GAME 1 RECAP
Carleton tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning after Daleo and
Trina Eichel (Jr./Alameda, Calif./Alameda) singled ahead of
Laurie Avila's (So./Sugar Grove, Ill./Oswego) sacrifice fly.
St. Catherine (14-6, 9-1 MIAC) took advantage of walks to plate two runs in the fourth and three another in the fifth. The Wildcats scored seven more times in the sixth, including Kaitlin Boyles' solo home run.
Boyles finished 3-for-5 with 2 RBI, while three teammates added multi-hit performances.
Daleo and Eichel were both 2-for-2 to lead Carleton.
GAME 2 RECAP
Daleo doubled twice and
Madison Collins (Jr./Elmhurst, Ill./York) added a single, but the Knights were unable to plate a run.
The Wildcats used four consecutive hits to plate three runs in the second inning and added three more in the sixth before capping the scoring via Mikayla Grant's solo home run.
Carleton sophomore
Faith Hanshaw (The Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands Christian Acad.) tossed her second complete game of the season.
