NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-2 victory over visiting University of St. Thomas.
The Knights (2-0, 2-0 MIAC) swept the doubles competition. Seniors
Leo Vithoontien (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) and
Xander Zuczek (Westerly, R.I./St. Bernard) extended their career record when playing doubles together to 8-0 following an 8-3 triumph at first doubles.
William Walsh (Jr./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) made his season debut and combined with
Yuv Kataria (Fy./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) for an 8-6 triumph at the second spot.
Aswath Viswanathan (So./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and
Aniketh Vipparla (Fy./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) contributed an 8-4 victory at third singles.
Upon moving to singles, the home team won four of the six matches with Kataria clinching the match with his 6-0, 6-2 result from the fifth spot.
Xander Roti (Jr./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy) notched a convincing 6-1. 6-0 victory at third singles.
"Roti's game is so dangerous that we make him sign a waiver before he plays a match," said Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel.
Vithoontien (6-1, 6-3) and Zuczek (6-2, 6-4) recorded the other victories for Carleton at the top two spots in the lineup.
St Thomas (6-4, 0-1 MIAC) won the remaining two singles matches in super tiebreakers.
