NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Coming off back-to-back losses for the first time since October 2017, the Carleton College men's soccer team (6-3-2, 4-2-0 MIAC) came back into form with a 2-0 triumph over Bethel University (7-4-1, 1-3-1 MIAC) at Bell Field on Saturday.
Â
The Knights grabbed the lead in the 22nd minute.
Marco da Cunha's (Sr./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University) initial shot was saved, but the deflection found the foot of
Tonny Aton (Sr./Nairobi, Kenya/Lukenya), who pocketed his shot into the net for his team-best fifth goal of the season. Carleton blanked Bethel in shots, claiming a 6-0 advantage in the first half.
Â
The second-half shot total was much closer, but it still registered 6-4 in Carleton's favor. None of those shots found home until the 88th minute.
Jeremiah Lanzillo (Fy./Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) stole the ball from a defender and made the run himself, splitting a pair of defenders en route to dribbling around the keeper before scoring the insurance goal to put the Knights up 2-0.
Â
Carleton goalkeeper
Alexei Thomas (Jr./Northwood, United Kingdom/Merchant Taylors School) saw fairly limited action, but he tallied a save and picked up his fourth win and second shutout of the season.
