NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Amelia Asfaw (Fy./Seattle, Wash./Seattle Prep), Amanda Black (Fy./Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), and Miriam Shteyman (Fy./Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) each won in both singles and doubles as the Carleton College women's tennis team defeated Minnesota State University-Mankato, a NCAA Division II program, by a 7-2 tally.
 
Carleton (3-0) led 2-1 after doubles. Asfaw and Black combined on an 8-6 win at the second slot, while the pairing of Shteyman and Lingyu Wei (Jr./Shanghai, China/Shanghai Weiyu High School) cruised to an 8-0 triumph at third doubles.
 
The Knights then proceeded to win five of the six singles matches. Shteyman was first to close out her opponent, prevailing 6-1, 6-0. Mary Frances Hose (So./Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) then battled back after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 at the top spot the lineup.
 
The Mavericks (3-3) picked up a win at the fourth slot, but Black secured the team result with her win at fifth singles by a 6-3, 6-1 score.
 
Asfaw added a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the second slot, and Mariam Nechiporuk (Fy./Portland, Ore./Lake Oswego) contributed a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles.

Carleton has a scrimmage at St. Olaf on Monday and then heads to the Warhawk Fall Invite, an eight-team event hosted by UW-Whitewater on October 8-9.
