LAKE FOREST, Ill. --
Trevor Jones (Jr./Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) and
Walter Williamson (Sr./Portland, Ore./Lincoln) both tallied their first goals of the season as the Carleton College men's soccer team registered a 2-0 non-conference victory at Lake Forest College.
Â
Carleton (9-3-2) owned an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Knights' defense did not allow a shot on goal over the final 52 minutes and posted its second consecutive shutout and fourth of the season, lowering the teams goals against average to 0.89, second-best among MIAC squads.
Â
After a scoreless first half, Jones broke the deadlock in the 49th minute.
Joe Petrini (Jr./Brooklyn N.Y./Packer Collegiate) ran onto a loose ball and poked a pass over the top of the Foresters (4-11-1) defense to Jones, who controlled the ball, dribbled into the box, and slotted a shot inside the far post.
Â
Ten minute later, Williamson put the game out of reach barely 80 seconds after entering the match as a replacement for
Marco da Cunha (Sr./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University), the Knights' leading scorer this season.
Â
The Lake Forest defense initially intercepted a long pass intended for Williamson, but the senior took the ball back at the edge of the 18-yard box and immediately slotted the shot around the goalkeeper for his third career goal.
Â
Elliot Hanson (Jr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made two saves in securing his first career shutout in goal for the Knights.
