DULUTH, Minn. - The Carleton College men's soccer team took a long road trip up north to face the newest member of the MIAC, the College of St. Schlolastica. The Knights (10-3-2, 7-2-0 MIAC) overcame a 3-1 deficit in the second half thanks to
Charlie Hall's (Sr./La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) three penalty kick goals.
Â
Things did not look great for the Knights early on. By the 13th minute, St. Scholastica (6-9-1, 2-5-1 MIAC) had taken advantage of sluggish play by Carleton (10-3-2, 7-2-0 MIAC) and were out to a 2-0 lead. The Knights bore down for the rest of the half, putting four shots on goal, but they did not score.
Â
The Knights were able to tack one on the scoreboard in the 59th minute when
Tonny Aton (Sr./Nairobi, Kenya/Lukenya) scored following a flurry of activity in front of the goal, including a re-directed shot off the crossbar.
Â
Less than a minute later, a Saints player received his second yellow card of the match and Carleton found themselves a man up with 30 minutes still left. However, the Saints did not go down early, reclaiming a two-goal advantage in the 69th minute.
Â
Starting in the 70th minute, the Knights surged, firing six shots on goal and having plenty more chances. In a game where there were 27 total fouls called, the Knights had penalty kick opportunities on three of them, with Hall converting in the 70th, 75th, and 86th minutes for his second collegiate hat trick.
Â
Carleton finished the afternoon with a 14-7 advantage in shots.
Tarek Bos-Shadi (Sr./Kankakee, Ill./Bradley Bourbonnais) contributed three shots on goal in a strong offensive performance.
Â
The Knights, who had already clinched a postseason berth, have now secured a home game in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs.
