Senior Spotlight: Sahil Chhugani

The PEAR Department is taking this opportunity to recognize and celebrate the seniors on our spring sports teams. While we are sad that we were unable to watch them compete this season, we are excited about what the future holds for each of them. Keep checking back in the coming weeks as we take the time to highlight each of these individuals. Click here for our Senior Spotlight archive.

What are your plans after graduation?
Join the job force after the summer, with a career in software development.

What was your favorite sports moment at Carleton?
My favorite sports moment was playing against UND at the start of the 2018-2019 season. This was the first time we had played a D-1 team in my career, and even though we didn't win, we showed we could battle and compete with the players of a higher caliber. This foreshadowed the successful season we would have.

Why did you choose Carleton?
I chose Carleton for the balance between academics, sports, and social life. I wanted to be part of a tennis team that would support me on the court and off the court.

Outside of athletics, what will you miss most about Carleton?
I will miss the collaborative atmosphere that is taught to all students within courses. This allowed me to apply teamwork strategies I learn in my sport in the classroom.

What else has your Carleton experience included?
Technology internships and externships with some small startups and international organizations such as 3M and the Mayo Clinic.

What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective student-athletes?
Prioritize Mental Fitness. Focus on what you can control, like the effort that you put in, and don't waste energy on the things you cannot control, like outcomes.

What is a favorite memory you have of your head coach?
When we visited Switzerland, and took part in a variety of climbing, zip-lining, and hiking activities that he organized. Very exciting to see him take on those strenuous escapades with an adventurous spirit.

Quote from Coach Stephan Zweifel:
"Sahil knows only one speed on the court, full throttle.  He throws himself into a tennis match with the intensity of a squirrel trying to break into a bird feeder."
