GRINNELL, Iowa – The Carleton College volleyball team dropped three matches at the ACM Tournament over the weekend, falling by 3-1 scores to Grinnell College, Luther College, and Cornell College.
Inger Shelton (So./San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) was selected to the seven-player all-tournament team.
GRINNELL MATCH RECAP
The Knights won the opening set but were unable to carry over the momentum to the remainder of the match and dropped a 25-19, 15-25, 19-25, 18-25 result.
Jancyn Appel (Fy./Kansas City, Mo./The Pembroke Hill School),
Olivia Powell (Sr./Palos Verdes, Calif./Chadwick), and
Grace Leuchtenberger (Jr./Newton, Mass./Newton South) paced the Carleton offensive with 9, 8, and 7 kills, respectively. The Knights could not keep pace with the power attack of Grinnell's Kaylin Kuhn, who amassed a match-high 20 kills.
Shelton posted her fourth double-double of the season, registering 24 assists and a team-high 15 digs.
LUTHER MATCH RECAP
Carleton once again captured the opening set but saw its opponent respond and secure the next three games to close out the match 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-22.
Abby Loe (Jr./Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley) equaled her season high with a match-best 15 kills. Leuchtenberger and Appel contributed eight and seven kills, respectively.
Naiya Karl (Fy./Fargo, N.D./Fargo South) hit .455 on her 11 attempts and added six aces, the highest single-match total by a Knight since 2014.
Shelton collected 23 more assists, while
Tegan Carlson (So./Benton City, Wash./Kona-Benton City) tallied 20 digs, her second-highest total of the season.
CORNELL MATCH RECAP
After dropping the opening set, the Knights claimed the second set, 28-26, before the Rams won the third and fourth sets to wrap up the weekend.
Three Cornell players finished with double-digit kills, while Loe, Powell, and Leuchtenberger had eight kills apiece for Carleton.
Shelton registered 29 assists, while Carlson, Appel, and Loe accounted for 14, 13, and 11 digs respectively. Karl hit .400 and factored in a match-high four blocks.
