ARDEN HILLS, Minn. –
Katie Chavez (Sr./Westminster, Colo./Holy Family) and
Aiana Whitfield (Fy./Richfield, Minn./Benilde St.-Margaret's) accounted for 14 and 11 points, respectively, but the Carleton College women's basketball team shot only 26 percent as a team in a 67-44 loss at Bethel University.
Carleton (2-4, 0-2 MIAC) had no answer for Bethel (6-0, 3-0 MIAC) forward Taite Anderson, who finished with game highs of 27 points and 12 rebounds.
The Knights held an 8-6 lead midway through the opening quarter, but the Royals went on a 22-5 run over the next 10 minutes and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
The Knights' defense forced Bethel into 25 turnovers, but a poor shooting evening for Carleton meant the Knights could not take advantage often enough.
Carleton continued its solid work at the charity stripe, converting 20-of-23 attempts to raise their MIAC-best free-throw percentage to .773.
UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS: Carleton goes back on the road to face Augsburg University for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday, Dec. 7. Live audio will be available via KDHL 920 AM in the Northfield/Faribault area and worldwide via athletics.carleton.edu.
