Knights close 2019 with 78-69 loss at Viterbo

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Jeremy Beckler (Fy./Lino Lakes, Minn./White Bear Lake) accounted for a game-high 22 points and Kent Hanson (Sr./St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) added 20 more points, but the Carleton College men's basketball team was outscored 13-2 over the final 2:21 of the game and dropped a New Year's Eve matchup against Viterbo University by a 78-69 tally.
 
Carleton (4-6) led by as many as seven in the second half and possessed a 67-65 lead after Isaac Tessier (Fy./White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) drained a 3-pointer with 2:31 still to play. The V-Hawks (5-8) scored the game's next 13 points as the Knights missed their final six shots from the field. Hanson capped the scoring with a pair of late free throws.
 
Viterbo shot 60 percent in the second half and 47 percent overall. Carleton connected on 44 percent of its shots.
 
Beckler surpassed 20 points for the fifth time in his last six games, while Hanson reached that plateau for the fifth consecutive contest. Both Knights made a trio of 3-point shots. Hanson also moved past both Mark Wandmacher and Scott Krohn on Carleton's all-time scoring list and into eighth place in team history with 1,371 career points (SEE CHART BELOW).
 
Tessier and Alex Battist (So./Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) contributed eight points apiece, while Beck Page (Fy./Longmont, Colo./Longmont) connected twice from downtown for his six points. Senior point guard Henry Bensen (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) chipped in five points with six rebounds and matched his career-high with eight assists.
 
Four players finished in double figures for VIterbo, led by Lowden Rockweiler's 18-point effort.
