Marcel Diggs join the Physical Education, Athletics, and Recreation (PEAR) Department at Carleton College as Associate Athletic Director on June 28, 2024.
Diggs' responsibilities at Carleton include assisting with compliance and eligibility tracking for Carleton student-athletes and adherence to MIAC and NCAA rules; budgetary planning, review, and fundraising; departmental policy development; personnel hiring and coach evaluations; and oversight of the NCAA Health Care Administrator, athletic event management, and the sports information office.
Prior to coming to Carleton, Diggs spent the previous 18 months serving as the Assistant Athletic Director of Events and Operations for the Pomona-Pitzer Department of Athletics in Claremont, Calif. While working for the Sagehens, Diggs oversaw the scheduling of all athletic and recreation facilities, staffing and operations of events, home game management; and championship hosting. He also provided leadership in planning and designing events, facility maintenance, and upgrades.
Diggs returned to Northfield, where he was a 2020 graduate of nearby St. Olaf College, majoring in economics with an emphasis in management. A member of the Oles' football and track & field programs, he was elected football team captain for his sophomore season and held that leadership role for three years. Diggs also served one year as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at St. Olaf. During his time as an undergraduate, he participated in the NCAA's Division III Student Immersion Program in January 2019 as well as both the NCAA Next Steps Program and Career in Sports Forum in June 2019. During the summer of 2019 he was an administrative intern for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
After graduation, Diggs spent a year as an intern at the NCAA national office, working in Administrative Services as assisting in the areas of operations, business performance management, human resources, information services, internal auditing, and finance.
He then took part in a two-year program at Tufts University as a Future Leader Graduate Fellow and earned a master's degree in Diversity and Inclusion Leadership within the Tufts Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Diggs also worked within various units of the Jumbos' athletics department: facilities, events, and game operations; fundraising, development, and alumni engagement; business operations and compliance; marketing, communications, and social media; and student affairs, student recreation, and club sports.
