INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DURING MY TIME AS A CARLETON STUDENT:
Mayo Clinic. I worked in the Immunostains Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where I assisted in the clinical operations of the lab. We received biopsy tissue from within the Mayo Clinic and from other clients across the world. We used specific antibodies to stain certain proteins and biomarkers on/in the tissue, and then using quality control methods, we confirmed that this procedure worked properly so that a pathologist may develop a diagnosis based on the staining results. I was involved in each of these steps to help the lab run smoothly and got to perform independent manual staining projects.
