INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DURING MY TIME AS A CARLETON STUDENT:
I got an Independent Research Fellowship. For this project, I focused on the practice and experimentation with visual sociology in order to gain insight into the merit of the subdiscipline and the nature of how visual data can be used to document human experiences. While there are many approaches to visual sociology, I focused on sociologist Douglas Harper’s reflexive mode, which prioritizes data collection using the subject’s perspective as opposed to the researcher’s one. I conducted this experiential research in Tokyo as it provides a place of both familiarity and extreme heterogeneity of people and experiences to learn from.
