Bill Huyck Championship Cross Country Course

34861The Carleton College cross country course was renamed the Bill Huyck Championship Cross Country Course in honor of longtime coach Bill Huyck, who guided the Knights to the 1980 NCAA Division III men's team championship. This course was selected to host the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Central Region Championships, the 2024 NCAA North Region Championships, the 2026 NCAA National Championships, and the 2019 and 2023 MIAC Championships.

The Bill Huyck Championship Cross Country Course is part of the Upper Arboretum and is located behind the Recreation Center (501 Three Oaks Drive). The course is primarily grass with some dirt and crushed rock.

For both runner and spectator safety, NO DOGS or other PETS are allowed at meets, including anywhere on the cross country course or inside the Rec Center. Leave all pets at home or in your vehicle. (Exceptions will be made only for trained service animal required for assisting individuals with disabilities.)

PARKING
  Meet Parking map 
• There is no charge for parking.
• Spectators should plan ahead and expect to walk 15 minutes from parking locations to the course
• Spectator parking is available in any legal parking space on campus. (EXCEPTION: The Rec Center parking lots are reserved for meet officials, teams, and handicap parking ONLY.)

Recommended locations for spectator parking include:
- lot north of West Gym on west side of Highway 19
- lot north of the Laurence McKinley Gould Library (across from West Gym)
- on any city street south of campus (access the cross country course via follow paved walking path -- see map for details).
- other parking lots on campus (Scoville, Chapel, or Evans parking lots)
- lot south of Laird Stadium on west side of Highway 19
• Parking is not permitted along Highway 19.
• Accessibility drop off — Handicap parking is limited. There will be a designated loading/unloading zone available in the Rec Center parking lot (see map for details).

Buses MUST park off-site but may access the Recreation Center parking lot (501 Three Oaks Drive) in order to drop off/pick up teams. Please treat Three Oaks Drive as a one-way street—enter from Highway 19 west of the Recreation Center and exit toward Highway 19 by way of the dirt road north of the Recreation Center/west of the baseball and softball fields. Buses can park along 7th Street East by the Northfield Memorial Pool, which is located at 801 7th Street East.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS to Carleton Recreation Center
• Take I-35 to Exit 69 (MN Hwy 19)
• Go east approximately 7 miles to intersection of MN Hwy 19 and MN Hwy 3
• Turn left at stoplight and go north on Hwy 19/3 for two blocks
• Turn right at stoplight and go east on Hwy 19/Second Street over the river to next intersection (first stop sign)
• Turn left on Hwy 19/Division St and go approximately 0.5 miles
• Turn right onto Three Oaks Drive
