MY OFF-CAMPUS STUDY PROGRAM ENHANCED MY EXPERIENCE AS A CARLETON STUDENT-ATHLETE BECAUSE…
Studying in New Zealand was an amazing experience that not only fueled my interest in geology but also allowed me to strengthen relationships and build valuable fieldwork skills. London and Seville were fantastic adventures where I was able to attend many different Premier League/La Liga soccer games and sporting events in new places. Learning about the history and culture of these places is something that cannot be replicated within a classroom environment!

INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DURING MY TIME AS A CARLETON STUDENT:
USGS.  During my two summers at the US Geological Survey in Denver, I worked with specialized mineral separation techniques such as crushing, sieving, and magnetic and density separations to produce high-quality samples for geochronologists, economic mineral exploration, and other researchers across the country. Aside from doing day-to-day sample processing, I was also in charge of several projects pertaining to instrument setup, calibration, and maintenance.

Spending time working for the USGS was immensely helpful in several ways. My internships enabled me to not only learn on the job but also to gain hands-on experience working with active samples and collaborating with researchers.
