NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 non-conference contest to visiting Grinnell College on Sunday afternoon.
Carleton (5-3-0) out-paced Grinnell (8-1-0) up and down the stat sheet but was unable to get the ball across the goal line. The Knights maintained possession 65 percent of the match, owned a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks, and led in both overall shots (15-13) and shots on goal (5-4).
The hosts took nine of the game's first 10 shots, but in the 10th minute, the visitors cashed in their lone early opportunity.
On the counter attack, the Pioneers' Samuel Gojjam was one-on-one with Carleton goalkeeper
Adam Ouachani inside the 18-yard box, but the Knight rookie was equal to the task with a huge save. The rebound caromed nearly 30 yards from the goal, but the Pioneers were first to the loose ball and two passes later Oliver Klemm headed home the game's lone score.

Hudson Benites behind the Grinnell backline. The sophomore midfielder took a touch around the hard-charging goalkeeper, but his shot destined for the lower left corner was instead cleared off the line by a sliding defender keeping the Pioneers' clean sheet intact.
The victory was the first for Grinnell over the Knights since the 1989 campaign. Carleton was unbeaten over the previous 10 meetings (9-0-1) dating back to 2002.
