NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The first career goals of
Zoe Silver and
Katherine Mallon led the Carleton College women's soccer team to a 3-0 over the Simpson College Storm in a Sunday matinee.
After the game, head coach
Jessica Mueller said "I'm really happy with the way we played today. We have worked really hard the past few weeks to move the ball well through every third of the field. We still have a bit of work to do in the attacking third but two of our three goals were really special, high-level finishes. This is a really determined, cohesive group and we are excited to start MIAC play this week."
Relentless pressure from Silver in the second minute earned her an excellent chance from 10 yards, but Simpson (2-2-1) netminder Meredith Downs got down quickly to save. Silver and Carleton (2-1-0) got another chance in the 18th minute when
Lily Shure received the ball on the right and whipped a ball to the head of the rookie striker. Silver directed a looping header into the far corner for her first career goal.
Silver made an impact again in the 28th minute when she slipped between a pair of Simpson defenders in the box and was taken down from behind, drawing a penalty.
Lola Feurer slotted the spot-kick into the lower left corner to take the score to 2-0.
At 57 minutes, Simpson's Abby Bell got open from distance and laced a shot that was headed towards the top right corner, but Carleton goalkeeper
Avery Trapp elevated to direct the ball off the post and maintain the Knights' clean sheet.
Carleton put together a couple of chances later in the second half, and put the game to bed after 81 minutes when
Isabelle Connolly handed a short pass to Mallon, who dribbled to the top of the box and curled a 22-yard effort just inside the post to record the first goal of her time in maize and blue. Trapp made two easy saves across the final eight minutes to wrap up the shutout and the victory.
Trapp finished with four saves and carded the 31st shutout of her collegiate career.
Carleton outshot Simpson 19-6, with eight shots on target to four for the Storm. The Knights have not allowed a goal at Bell Field since the 77:14 mark in their Sept. 24, 2025 match against UW-La Crosse, a span of seven complete matches and 643 minutes.
