BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The No. 33-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team got back in the win column with a convincing 7-0 triumph over St. Catherine University.
Giana Marks,
Ryann Witter, and
Varinn Sood each won in both singles and doubles play.
Carleton (8-1, 5-0 MIAC) started with a sweep of the three doubles matches. Marks and Witter prevailed 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, followed by a 6-2 victory for
Algara Dineva and
Kat Smiricinschi at the second slot and a 6-3 win for Sood and
Clara Mast at No. 3 doubles.
The Knights won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Marks topped Faith Simon 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while
Kiley Pickens notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Liliana Holmberg at the second spot in the lineup. Witter added a 6-0, 6-1 win against Marie Pelletier at No. 3 singles.
Peggy Fu won her eighth consecutive match, defeating Ashley King 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Sood bested Ryanna Steinhaus 6-2, 6-0 at the fifth slot, and
Gabriela Cilella improved to 5-0 in solo action with a 6-1, 6-1 result against Melaine Gravdahl.
