HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Carleton College men's tennis team saw its five-match win streak halted with a 6-1 setback against Oberlin College.
Carleton's (12-3)
Zach Leslie and
Yihe Zhang registered a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, the duo's third consecutive victory. Oberlin (9-3) captured the doubles team point thanks to a 6-1 triumph atop the lineup and a 6-4 result at No. 3 doubles.
The Yeomen won the first three singles matches to finish, prevailing 6-1, 6-1 at the fifth slot and 6-1, 6-3 at the sixth slot. Leslie sent his battle with Oberlin's Zain Makada to a super tiebreaker before ultimately falling 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 3 singles.
Ezra Bernhad notched the Knights' lone victory in singles, earning a 7-5, 6-2 win at the fourth slot. The result moved him to 11-3 on the season, tied for most victories on the squad.
"Ezra again proved that when you get back one more than your opponent, you often win tennis matches," said Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel. "As he muttered after the match, 'Tennis is not rocket surgery'."
Oberlin won the other two singles matches, with the Yeomen prevailing 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) atop the lineup and 7-5, 6-2 at the second slot.
