HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 33-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team lost its Spring Break opener, falling 4-3 to regional foe University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Warhawks (7-3) swept the three doubles matches, prevailing 6-2, 6-3, and 7-5, respectively at No. 1 through No. 3 doubles.
UW-Whitewater added a victory at No. 5 singles when Carleton's (8-3)
Varinn Sood was forced from the match due to an injury. The Warhawks secured the team result with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the second flight and a 6-3, 6-3 result at No. 3 singles.
Carleton captured the other three matches as the Knights shuffled their lineup due to a different injury during doubles.
Kiley Pickens moved up to the top flight for the first time in two seasons and secured a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win.
Algara Dineva improved to 10-0 on the year, but it was not easy as the rookie had to battle back after dropping the first set tiebreaker. She eventually came out on top 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 4 singles.
Gabriela Cilella was added to the singles lineup and contributed a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the sixth slot. It was her sixth consecutive triumph, the second-longest active win streak on the squad.
