Knights top Wooster, 4-3, to start Spring Break trip

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Carleton College men's tennis team started its Spring Break trip with a 4-3 triumph over the College of Wooster.

"Similar to this year's Oscar winning movie, the transition to outdoor tennis and the accompanying distractions is One Battle After Another," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. This was the Knights' (10-2) first outdoor match since October 4.

Carleton started the day with a sweep of the doubles matches. The No. 16-ranked duo in the nation, Akshay Garapati and Jack Rivkin, prevailed 6-4 atop the lineup.

Zach Leslie and Baiyun Jing contributed a 6-1 victory at the second slot, while Ezra Bernhard and Owen Heidtke started their stellar days with a 6-2 result at No. 3 doubles.

Upon moving to singles action, Bernhard cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fourth slot, and
Heidtke followed soon after with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles to put the Knights ahead 3-0 in the team competition.

Jing notched his team-high 10th win of the season, clinching the team result with his 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles.

The Scots (6-2) saw their three-match win streak snapped but fought to the end, claiming victories at No. 1 (6-4, 7-6, [7-1]), No. 3 (7-5, 6-3), and No. 5 singles (2-6, 6-2, 1-0 [12-10]).

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton has four more matches on its visit to the Palmetto State, beginning with a 10:00 a.m. EDT contest against Augustana College on Monday, March 23.
