Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights beat Bethel 4-0 to remain perfect in MIAC play

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team remained undefeated in conference action and notched its seventh consecutive victory as the Knights secured a 4-0 victory over Bethel University.

During the win streak, Carleton (7-1-0, 5-0-0 MIAC) has outscored its opposition 21-1. The Knights scored two goals in each half against Bethel (2-6-1, 1-3-1 MIAC), marking the fourth time in the streak that Carleton has tallied three or more goals. The Knights are 12-0-0 over their last dozen home games, outscoring opponents 34-3 in those games.

The game's first goal came in the 33rd minute. Zoe Silver sent a cross toward the top of the six-yard box, but before it could reach a Knight the ball was headed by a Bethel defender into the netting. Eight minutes later, Lily Shure and Disha Roy combined on a corner kick routine that sprung Roy at the edge of the area. Roy whipped a ball on frame, and Kiana Feldis deflected the ball past the goalkeeper for her third goal of the season.

Five minutes into the second half, Shure received the ball on the right wing. She shimmied past a defender and slipped a ball into the box for Katherine Mallon. Mallon rifled a first-touch shot into the top corner, tallying her third goal of the season and opening up a 3-0 lead.

After contributing to the opening own goal, Silver got a goal of her own in the 56th minute. Shure played a through ball for the rookie striker, who raced 20 yards into the box, cut inside, and lofted a shot into the far corner for her team-best fourth goal. The Knights allowed only one shot to Bethel over the last half-hour to secure the win.

Shure carded the first multi-assist game of her collegiate career, and became the 36th Carleton player to register two or more assists in a game. Her four assists this season are tied for fourth in the MIAC. Silver moved up to nine points (4g,1a) on the season, second-most by any MIAC rookie.

Avery Trapp only needed to make one save to notch her 33rd career shutout. Trapp and her defense's excellent start to the season has pushed her to first place in Carleton history in goals against average (see chart below).

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton travels across the Mississippi for a midweek non-conference meeting with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Oct. 7. The Knights and Blugolds will kick off at 7:30 p.m. in Wisconsin.
