ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with the College of Saint Benedict on the road. The result secured the Knights at least a share of the MIAC regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Playoffs.
Carleton (11-1-2, 9-0-1 MIAC) earned at least a share of the MIAC regular season championship for the seventh time in program history, and the fourth time in the last five seasons. The No. 1 seed ensures that the Knights will hold onto home field advantage throughout the MIAC Playoffs.
The Knights reeled off three shots in the opening 10 minutes, but none of them were on goal. Saint Benedict (11-1-3, 6-1-3 MIAC) forward Elly Prairie got on the end of a 17th-minute cross, but couldn't direct it at the net.
Hadley Twichell fired a free kick towards the bottom right corner in the 26
th minute, but Bennie goalkeeper Rhianna Anya made a diving stop.
Eva Gower took a long-range effort towards
Avery Trapp early in the second half, but Trapp made the simple save to keep her shutout intact. At minute 59, Twichell spotted
Lola Feurer on a cross into the box, and Feurer punched a close-range shot off the right post in Carleton's best chance of the day. Two late longe-range efforts from Twichell couldn't beat Anya, and the Knights were forced to settle for a draw despite outshooting Saint Benedict 14-9.
Carleton took seven shots on goal compared to two for Saint Benedict, and six corners to the Bennies' one.
Trapp made two saves to secure the shutout, Carleton's fifth in a row. Carleton is in the midst of its second shutout streak of 400 minutes or more, with this streak currently sitting at 464 minutes and 34 seconds.
