NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's soccer team controlled the run of play but still ended up with a 0-0 draw against visiting Concordia College-Moorhead on Tuesday afternoon at Bell Field.
"I can't be frustrated with the effort of our guys," said Carleton head coach
Bob Carlson. "We're just snakebitten right now. You can dominate a game, and I thought we did. We just couldn't come up with the final touch at the end."
Carleton (5-3-1, 1-2-1 MIAC) totaled a possession time advantage of 73 percent compared to 27 percent for Concordia (0-6-4, 0-2-1 MIAC). The Knights were constantly on the attack. They finished with a 29-5 edge in shot attempts and took 13 of the game's 14 cornerkicks.
While Concordia-Moorhead spent much of the contest with 10 players behind the ball, the Cobbers were able to spring a few counterattacks. Carleton goalkeeper
Leo Kugel had two saves in posting his second clean sheet of the season. Meanwhile, Cobber netminder Jack Solheid registered seven saves and interrupted several other dangerous Carleton crosses.
The Knights thought they broke through for a goal in the 76th minute when
Finn Lennon finished off a long service by
Ben Roman, but after a delay, the officiating crew whistled the Carleton attack for being offsides. In the 89th minute, a ball destined for the net was cleared off the line by Concordia defender Victor Ambenge to keep the contest scoreless.
