Knights top St. Ben's 9-0 in final tune-up before MIAC Playoffs

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 28-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team finished the regular season with a 9-0 victory over College of Saint Benedict on Sunday afternoon at the Pat Lamb Tennis Courts. Amelia Asfaw, Mariam Nechiporuk, and Ryann Witter each won in both singles and doubles.
 
Asfaw and Nechiporuk registered an 8-2 victory atop the doubles lineup. It was their team-best 12th victory of the campaign. Witter and Ingrid Smith secured their 11th win of the year with an 8-5 result at the second slot, while Amanda Black and Kat Smiricinschi got back in the win column with an 8-2 decision at No. 3 doubles.
 
Five of Carleton's (14-3, 9-1 MIAC) six singles victories came in straight sets.
 
Asfaw notched her eighth consecutive victory with a 6-4, 6-3 result against Sophia Jonas at No. 1 singles.
 
Nechiporuk, who cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the second spot, and Miriam Shetyman, who prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at the third slot, both earned their 11th solo win of the campaign.
 
Kiley Pickens improved her team-best singles record to 15-1 after racing to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles. Witter moved to 12-3 as she contributed a 6-2, 6-0 decision at the fifth spot.
 
Clara Mast remains unbeaten in solo play this season after pulling out a 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) win at No. 6 singles.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton, which previously secured a bye in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs, will host an opponent still to be determined in the semifinals on Friday, May 2.
