No. 33 Knights roll to 9-0 win over Macalester

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 33-ranked Carleton College men's tennis team returned to the win column with a 9-0 victory over Macalester College. Akshay Garapati, Baiyun Jing, Zach Leslie, and Aiden Patel each won in both singles and doubles.
 
The three doubles contests were either nail biters or routs. At No. 1 doubles, Garapati and Jack Rivkin edged Liam Lynch and Alec Sargent by an 8-7 (8-6 tally). Patel and Ezra Bernhard prevailed 8-7 (9-7) over Annes Beckett and Kangyu Li at the third slot. At the opposite end of the drama scale, Leslie and Jing raced to an 8-0 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
 
The Knights (13-2, 5-0 MIAC) swept the six singles matches, including five straight-set victories.
 
Miles Lee returned to the lineup and won his fourth consecutive decision, registering a 6-1, 6-4 win the sixth slot. Jasper Yang improved to 12-1 on the year with his 6-4, 6-2 victory at the second spot.
 
Patel secured his team-best 13th victory of the season, a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Jing picked up a 6-4, 6-2 at the top spot in the lineup, while Leslie notched a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
 
Garapati moved his ledger to a perfect 11-0 this year, holding off Li in a back-and-forth battled at No. 4 singles. The Carleton rookie captured the opening set 6-2, dropped the second set 1-6, but prevailed in the super tiebreaker 10-2.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will visit crosstown rival St. Olaf College for a 4:30 p.m. match on Wednesday, April 16. That competition was pushed back two days in order to take advantage of preferable weather conditions.
