ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 28-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team opened play during its Spring Break trip with a 5-2 victory over Pacific University. Carleton's (7-1) depth was too much for the Boxers (8-4).
While Pacific's top tandem of Cassidy Binder and Chloe Takahashi was victorious 6-4 atop the doubles lineup, the Knights captured the doubles point thanks to 6-3 victories at the second and third slots.
Ingrid Smith and
Ryann Witter prevailed over Sofia Mazzola and Tiara Yeung at No. 2 doubles, while
Amanda Black and
Kat Smiricinschi won at No. 3 doubles against Valentina Casab-Klescova and Mia Yamaguchi.
Binder — the No. 17 ranked singles player in the Division III — and Takahashi won again at the top two singles slots, but Carleton posted straight-set triumphs in the other four matches.
Mariam Shteyman notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Casab-Klescova at No. 3 singles, and
Kiley Pickens improved to 7-0 in solo action after recording a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mazzola at the fourth slot.
Witter and
Piper Brown both improved to 6-1 on the season. The former prevailed 6-1, 6-2 against Yeung at No. 5 singles, while the latter secured a 6-3, 6-0 result versus Yamaguchi at the sixth spot.

Carleton will face Hillsborough Community College, at 12:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, March 25. The Hawks are the No. 1-ranked NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) team in the country.
