Nina Schwab won the 3-meter competition on Day 2 of the NCAA Region 1 Diving Championships with a score of 485.55.
Hailey Westrup finished 11
th with a score of 408.45.
Schwab was ninth after six rounds of diving but posted four consecutive dives worth more than 50 points. She tallied 54.60 points during the seventh round on her Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck (107C). Schwab followed that up with her highest score of the competition, 58.50 points via her Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike (5152B) that had a 3.0 degree of difficulty. That boosted her from seventh to third overall.
Another 56.70-point score on her ninth dive, the Inward 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck (405C), propelled Schwab into first place for good. For good measure, she scored 55.50 points on her Back 2 1/2 Somersault Pike (205B), another 3.0 degree of difficulty dive.
Westrup had a trio of 40-plus point dives. She collected 43.20 points on her Forward 2 1/2 Somersault Pike (105B) then closed the session with her top-two scoring dives, tallying 43.75 points on a Forward 1 1/2 Somersault 2 Twist Free (5134D) and 45.60 points via a Back 1 1/2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Free (5233D).
By virtue of winning the 3-meter board and finishing second on the 1-meter board, Schwab will advance to the NCAA Division III Championships later this month.
