ELKHORN, Wis. – The Carleton College men's tennis team improved to 8-1 on the season and completed its 2-0 Super Bowl weekend trip to Wisconsin by notching a 6-1 triumph over Carroll University.
The Knights won the best-of-three doubles point thanks to a 6-4 triumph by
Ezra Bernhard and
Aiden Patel at the third slot followed by a come-from-behind victory by
Zach Leslie and
Jasper Yang at No. 2 doubles. Leslie and Yang came all the way back from down 4 games to 0 to claim the set 7-6 (7-5). The Pioneers (3-3) prevailed at No. 1 doubles by the same 7-6 (7-5) tally.
Yang extended his singles win streak with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 result at the second slot, while Patel added a 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) victory at No. 3 singles to put the Knights on the cusp of clinching the match.
Leslie secured the team victory with his 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 doubles, with Bernhard adding a 6-1, 6-2 result at No. 4 singles to complete his undefeated 4-0 weekend.
"Ezra's unique singles game causes as much anxiety in opponents as a cough in a crowded elevator during flu season," noted Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel.
Andrew Sretavan chipped in a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles, while Carroll's lone team point came at No. 1 singles where Aidan Gomez edged
Baiyun Jing by a 6-2, 6-3 tally.

Carleton returns home and will play the University of California-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on Saturday, Feb. 15. That 11:00 a.m. match will be held at Lifetime Fitness in Bloomington, Minn.
