No. 39 Knights win seventh straight, blank UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The No. 39-ranked Carleton College men's tennis team won its seventh consecutive match and improved to 10-1 on the season after securing a 7-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Carleton claimed the doubles point after quick starts at both the second and third slots in the lineup. Rookies Ezra Bernhard and Aiden Patel got the Knights started by registering a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

"I have not seen Aiden and Ezra so focused since Arby's 2-for-1 deal," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel.

Zach Leslie and Baiyun Jing notched a 6-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles, to earn the best-of-three doubles session. With the doubles point already in the Knights' back pocket, UWEC's Ethan Wurtzel and Juan Gallego took the No. 1 doubles match by a 6-2 tally over Jack Rivkin and Akshay Garapati.

All six singles matches when into the Carleton column via straight-set results.

Jing prevailed 6-3, 6-2 over Ethan Wurtzel at No. 1 singles, while Jasper Yang improved to 10-0 on the year after notching a 6-4, 6-2 victory in his No. 2 singles match against Pablo Rincon.

Patel tied Yang for the team lead in wins this season as the former tallied a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Otto Schlutter at No. 3 singles. Bernhard won at No. 4 singles to improve to 8-1 this year. After pulling out a 7-5 win in the first set, he rode the momentum to a 6-1 result in the second set.

Garapati is now 7-0 in singles after his 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sam Murillo at No. 5 singles, and Rivkin returned to the singles lineup for the first time in two weeks and registered a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the sixth slot.
