ST. PAUL, Minn. – Three-point shooting loomed large as the Carleton College men's basketball team suffered a 92-59 loss at Hamline University.
Luke Harris and
Sam Koelling led the Knights with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
The Knights (14-8, 7-6 MIAC) were only 4-of-17 (.235) from beyond the arc, their second-lowest percentage of the season. Meanwhile, the Pipers (14-9, 10-4 MIAC) connected at a .593 clip (16-of-27) from deep, the highest opponents' shooting percentage from long range this season and the best the opposition has performed from the outside since Saint John's went 11-of-18 (.611) on Dec. 14, 2021.
The bulk of the damage was done by Bradley Cimperman, who went 9-of-11 from 3-point range en route to a game-high 35 points and a career-best showing from beyond the arc.
Carleton's offense struggled to find a rhythm, putting up its lowest point total of the season.
The teams traded blows early, and the Knights led 16-14 before the Pipers utilized a 10-0 spurt as part of an 23-5 run spanning nearly nine minutes of action to take a 37-21 lead with 4:30 left in the first half. Cimperman pitched in 11 points during the run.
The Pipers hot shooting permitted them to build a 46-29 halftime advantage, going 18-of-31 from the field and 8-of-15 from three.
Coming out of the locker room after intermission, Cimperman picked up where he left off, cashing in two early triples to extend the Piper lead to 52-29. Hamline, which shot .586 overall for the game, enjoyed at least a 19-point cushion the rest of the way.
As a team, Carleton shot 24-of-62 (38.7 percent) from the field.
