BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Carleton College forward
Sam Koelling was tabbed the MIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for Dec. 8-14. This is his third career conference weekly honor.
Koelling averaged 23.0 points while shooting .692 (18-of-26) overall and .545 (6-of-11) from 3-point range in helping Carleton to a 2-0 week. He also averaged 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 2.0 assists. He started the week with his fourth double-double of the season, this one a 25-point, 10-rebound effort in a Dec. 10 win over Macalester that included four blocked shots, which equaled his career high. Koelling concluded the week with 21 points, 8 boards and another blocked shot against University of Northwestern-St. Paul on Dec. 13.
He is only MIAC men's basketball player to be selected as both offensive and defensive player of the week at some point this season, having previously been honored for his offensive prowess from Nov. 17-23.
