Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Knights stay undefeated with 6-1 win over UW-Superior

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the year with a 6-1 victory over University of Wisconsin-Superior in non-conference action at the Pat Lamb Tennis Courts.

The Knights got off to a quick start by sweeping the doubles action. Zach Leslie and Baiyun Jing raced to a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, while Carleton's top tandem of Jack Rivkin and Akshay Garapati continued their strong play as they prepare for the upcoming ITA Cup. Ezra Bernhard and Owen Heidtke contributed a 6-4 result at the third slot.

"I was once again impressed with how we started the match with our excellent doubles play," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. "Our guys are showing a level of brash confidence similar to astrophysicists even though they are unsure where 95 percent of the universe is hidden."

The Knights earned wins in five of the doubles matches, all in straight sets. Heidtke was first to finish, prevailing 6-3, 6-1 at the sixth slot. Leslie followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, and Bernhard secured the Knights fourth team point with his 6-1, 6-1 result at No. 4 singles.

Rivkin added a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the fifth spot in the lineup, while Garapati pulled out a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) result at No. 2 singles.

The No. 1 singles clash between Jing and the Yellowjackets' Igor Guetten Chaves went the distance before going in the visitors' favor by a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) margin.
