Knights' winning streak snapped by No. 11 Saint John's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College football team had its five-game winning streak halted on the road, losing 49-10 to No. 11 Saint John's University.

Jack Curtis was ultra-efficient in implementing the Knights' quick-hitting game plan, going 29-for-36 (80.6 completion percentage), totaling 194 yards and a touchdown. That completion percentage is the eighth best (min. 10 attempts) by a Carleton quarterback in a game. Curtis now has five of the top 10 single-game completion percentage performances in program history. (see chart below)

The Johnnies (6-1, 5-1 MIAC) opened the scoring with a 10-play march to the end zone in the first quarter and expanded their lead to 14-0 when quarterback Trey Feeney found Dylan Wheeler over the middle for a 26-yard score at 1:39 in the frame.

The hosts added another touchdown at 8:59 in the second. Carleton (5-2, 5-1 MIAC) got a drive rolling, but it was halted by a deep-ball interception, Curtis' first in 117 pass attempts. Saint John's got another touchdown off the turnover just before the break and carried a 28-0 lead into intermission.

Zach Ventura picked off Feeney out of the break, and the Knights parlayed the turnover into a 38-yard Marcus Merkelbach field goal, the first point the Johnnies' have surrendered at home this season. Saint John's responded with three unanswered touchdowns. Carleton finished the scoring by finding paydirt late in the fourth quarter as the visitors pieced together a methodical 12-play, 75-yard drive capped by Rye Storrs' sixth touchdown grab of the season.

Curtis' favorite target was Jaxon Watson, who tied a career high with nine receptions, going for 83 yards. On defense, Zach Ventura had five tackles in addition to his first career pick. Eric Lail led the team with eight tackles.
